Getting stronger after 50

Safe, simple, and it works. How to start, how to recover, and what to do if a joint complains.
You have done the starter plan. Here is what the next twelve weeks feel like, and how to get the most from them.
Lifting is safe
Experts who reviewed hundreds of studies agree: for older adults, the benefits of lifting outweigh the risks, when you start light and build slowly. That is how this plan works.
Weeks 1 and 2: go light
Pick weights that feel easy. Learn each move. Getting the movement right now pays off for the whole twelve weeks.
Warm up every time
Five minutes of walking or marching on the spot. Then one easy set of your first move.
If a joint complains
Sore muscles are normal. Joint pain is not. Make the move smaller, use a lighter weight, or skip it that day. Still hurts? See your doctor or a physio.
Keep the balance moves
They take two minutes. Do them every session, next to a counter. Strength and balance together keep you steady.
